Essential Rome

Campidoglio, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, Sistine Chapel.

Duration: 1 day

Believe it or not, Rome can be seen in a day. We've created this "Best Of" tour for all of you jet setters who have little time but have to see it!

10:00 - 12:00 Coliseum to Campidoglio

In the morning we'll introduce you to the Rome of the Caesars - Ancient Rome. We begin at the Coliseum, which is not only the arena of the Gladiators but was also a fortress of the Middle Ages and finally a monument to the early Christians who were martyred there. Nearby stands the ancient city center, the Roman Forum. Here you'll see some of Rome's most impressive temples and hear the stories of the Roman Empire's rise and fall, of Julius Caesar and the many colorful and sometimes cruel emperors who followed him. This portion of the tour finishes at the top of the Capitoline hill, affording an unforgettable view of the ancient city and a visit to Michelangelo's civic masterpiece, the piazza of the Campidoglio.

12:30 - 15:30 Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's, Lunch at the Vatican.

We all know that you can't visit Rome without seeing the Sistine Chapel, and believe us, it's worth it. So forget about the crowds of gawking tourists surrounding you and enjoy! The Vatican holds more treasures than could be seen even over a few days. Our goal is to show you what we think is the best of the Museum; the Renaissance masterpieces and the Greek and Roman sculptures that inspired them. You'll hear the stories of the Artists' lives and the mythological and biblical tales that they based their work on. After lunch we visit the Basilica of St. Peter's, the Church of the Popes of Rome.

16:00 - 18:00 Centro Storico

The final portion of the day is spent in Rome's historic center. Starting at the Piazza di Spagna we'll show you the Spanish Steps, evoking the artists, writers and courtesans who made it famous. A short walk brings us to the Trevi Fountain, another beauty of the 18th century. There will, of course, be time to throw a coin in, and you WILL be back! A final short walk will take us to the Pantheon, Rome's temple dedicated to all her gods, then converted into a church, it's impressive dimensions and amazingly well preserved state make it a bridge between Rome of the Ancients and all that followed. It's a fine place to conclude our tour, especially since it is surrounded by outdoor cafes that will happily welcome us with a cool drink and a table with a one of a kind view.
